Last month, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) set a deadline for all airlines to have 100 percent interline e-ticketing (IET) by May 31, 2008. As of July, SkyTeam is well on track to complete all bilateral implementations between all current carriers. At the same time, the alliance is working to complete the GDS aspect of IET, including the link ups between airlines and third-party retailers, such as travel agents, who sell travel options.

SPAIN, PANAMA, KENYA, February 2, 2007 - SkyTeam, the global airline alliance, has signed agreements with three airlines -- Air Europa, Copa Airlines and Kenya Airways --indicating the carriers are on track for official Associate Airline status. NEW YORK, January 25, 2007 - For the second consecutive year, SkyTeam was named the 2006 Best Airline Alliance by Global Traveler Magazine. Selected by the magazine's readers in an annual reader's survey, Global Traveler cited the addition of Aeroflot and pending addition of China Southern Airlines to the alliance as key factors for receiving this recognition. SkyTeam was recognized at a luncheon in New York on Tuesday. Accepting the award on behalf of the alliance was Nathaniel Pieper, SkyTeam Steering Committee vice chairman and vice president-alliances, Northwest Airlines.
At the conclusion of its launch year, the SkyTeam Global Meetings product, used to assist international event coordinators, has been extensively used by convention organizers around the world. From Washington, D.C. to Belgrade, Barcelona to Dubai, SkyTeam is the official airline alliance of a range of events and conferences. For example, SkyTeam signed contracts with the World Congress of Science Producers, for their December 2006 meeting in Manchester and the Kofak: Transform 2006 conference, also held in December 2006 in Prague. The network created by SkyTeam’s ten member airlines, allows Global Meeting organizers to promote flight options for attendees no matter where they select the meeting location.
