Overview

Home to the European Union and NATO, Brussels abounds with Art Nouveau charm. The cosmopolitan capital is a bastion of economic and political power. Approximately 1,200 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and more than 1,700 international associations are based in Brussels. It's almost equally well known as the birthplace of the beloved comic book character Tintin. One of Belgium's main policy issues is the divide between the Flemish- and French-speaking population, who are dominant in Brussels.
